Suzuki Authentics patent images leaked

Patent images of the upcoming Suzuki Authentics have been leaked, providing the best look yet at the production mid-size sedan due to reach Chinese showrooms by year's end.

First seen in concept guise at last year's Shanghai auto show, the Suzuki Authentics patent images – leaked by China's autohome – show a significantly toned down version of the C-segment targeting SX4/S-Cross inspired sedan.

Based on the patent images, a smoothed bonnet, tame profile character lines, more production ready front and rear bumpers and smaller diameter wheels will replace the sleek concepts sculptured looks, aggressive lines and larger alloy wheels.

According to Suzuki designer Hisanori Matsushima, the Authentics is targeting sportiness, unparalleled quality and ultimate elegance, and is being designed and built as a joint venture between Suzuki and Chonqing Changan Suzuki of China.

The model – which is also due to go on sale in India badged as the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in the second half of 2014 – is anticipated to feature a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine tied to either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The new sedan is tipped for an April reveal at the 2014 Beijing auto show.
