Suzuki Australia communications manager Andrew Ellis told CarAdvice the new diesel version should arrive late this year or early next, giving buyers a gruntier alternative to the sedate 1.6-litre petrol model - though he stated the car is "not confirmed" yet.
The 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine is sourced from Fiat, and boasts 88kW of power and 320Nm of torque - up considerably on the petrol's torque output of 156Nm (it has an identical 88kW peak power).
The diesel is available solely with a six-speed manual transmission, and can be had with front- or all-wheel-drive. Fuel use is claimed at 4.2 litres per 100km for the 2WD and 4.4L for the 4WD.
The current S-Cross range starts at $22,990 and tops out at $34,990, and any diesel version would likely attract a premium over the equivalent petrol variants.
