A diesel-powered Suzuki S-Cross is all-but confirmed to hit Australian showrooms by late 2014 or early 2015.
Suzuki Australia communications manager Andrew Ellis told CarAdvice the new diesel version should arrive late this year or early next, giving buyers a gruntier alternative to the sedate 1.6-litre petrol model – though he stated the car is “not confirmed” yet.
The 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine is sourced from Fiat, and boasts 88kW of power and 320Nm of torque – up considerably on the petrol’s torque output of 156Nm (it has an identical 88kW peak power).
The diesel is available solely with a six-speed manual transmission, and can be had with front- or all-wheel-drive. Fuel use is claimed at 4.2 litres per 100km for the 2WD and 4.4L for the 4WD.
The current S-Cross range starts at $22,990 and tops out at $34,990, and any diesel version would likely attract a premium over the equivalent petrol variants.
