BMW X2 due 2017, second-generation Mini Countryman and Paceman confirmed :: report

There's already a BMW X6 and a new BMW X4 has been revealed too. But just when you thought the "Sports Activity Coupe" range couldn't get any broader, an all-new BMW X2 has allegedly been confirmed.

A user on BMW forum Bimmerpost who is reportedly employed by the company posted that "BMW has confirmed the X2 for introduction in 2017", uploading the above image to the site.

The new model - which will undoubtedly carry over the coupe-inspired styling of its larger X4 and X6 sibling models - is said to be built upon the next-generation BMW X1 platform, which offers both front- and all-wheel-drive layouts and is shared with the new 2 Series Active Tourer.

The post states the new X2 will be "xDrive only", meaning no front-drive variant will be sold - but that's contrary to other reports, which suggest any such X2 would be available in front- and all-wheel-drive. The Bimmerpost report claims there will be a "practical [five-door] format and sportier [three-door] with typical BMW Sport Activity Coupe design outline".

The apparent insider - who goes by the moniker Scott26 - also claimed the new X2 variants would be "sister vehicles to the new Mini Countryman/Paceman", despite recent rumours suggesting the Paceman may not make a second appearance.

According to the post, the second-generation Countryman is said to be "a proper go-anywhere SUV", while the Paceman "will be the more stylish, sportier lifestyle model" and won't carry over its current three-door layout, instead being offered with five doors.
