GM fires up for New York Motor Show

As General Motors continues to battle through its financial mire, it will, for a short time at least, set aside these issues to host an impressive display at this year's New York International Auto Show.

Featuring newly introduced production vehicles from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC and SAAB, GM will also showcase its electric, luxury concept car the Cadillac Converj.

As a special highlight Chevrolet, in cooperation with DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures, it will also highlight some automotive stars from the upcoming movie, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

Buick is set to introduce its completely redesigned 2010 Buick LaCrosse luxury sedan. LaCrosse offers a choice of two V6 engines; all-wheel drive; and a suite of advanced intelligent personal technologies and safety features.

Designed inside and out with great attention to detail, craftsmanship and advanced technology, LaCrosse is expected to go on sale from mid-2009.

GMC will display its 2009 Sierra Hybrid. The Sierra Hybrid achieves 40 per cent greater city fuel economy than the non-hybrid model, while delivering all the capability of a full-size pick-up.

The LaCrosse and Sierra Hybrid will be joined by several other recently introduced vehicles from the Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel, including Pontiac G6, Pontiac G8 GXP, Pontiac Solstice Coupe and Pontiac G3.

Cadillac, in addition to the Converj, will showcase its dramatic new designs, including a pair of important new production models focused on the changing priorities of luxury consumers.

The 2010 SRX Crossover is Cadillac’s next-generation luxury crossover vehicle, bringing a more dynamic design to the crossover category. With new, smaller engines and a high-tech, new all-wheel-drive system, the SRX is redesigned for increased efficiency and safety.

Cadillac also will showcase the 2010 CTS Sport Wagon, a progressive new take on the classic wagon body style. The CTS Sport Wagon, slated to hit the streets in May, is based on Cadillac’s best-selling CTS Sport Sedan.

Chevrolet brings its 2010 Chevrolet Equinox crossover to the show along with its Volt EV, Camaro and 2011 Cruze.

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is an all-new, compact sedan expected to go on sale in the United States and Canada in 2010. Cruze will be powered by an optional new 1.4-litre turbocharged engine or an efficient 1.8-litre engine, both of which will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2011 Chevrolet Spark, a four-door mini car that combines youthful exterior and interior design with outstanding fuel economy, will also share the Chevy stage.

Spark will be sold in several markets around the globe starting in 2010 before going on sale across the US in 2011.

And finally, SAAB will debut its versatile 9-3X sport wagon at the show. The 9-3X is equipped to handle rough terrain with a raised ride height and sure-footed grip from SAAB's cutting edge XWD system.

With distinctive looks, including new bumpers and a protective lower body treatment, the 9-3X offers a lighter alternative to heavier and larger crossovers or SUVs.
