Mitsubishi Outlander : Pricing and specifications for MY14.5 update

The Mitsubishi Outlander range introduces significant changes as the Japanese brand tries to claw back some sales in the tough-fought family SUV segment.

The updated Outlander range arrives just six months after Mitsubishi made a round of line-up changes and only 16 months after its initial launch. The news also comes just weeks after Nissan announced pricing for the new X-Trail, which, like the Mitsubishi, offers models with five or seven seats.

The changes are significant: Mitsubishi says it has retuned the car’s suspension dampers and shock absorbers for improved body-roll control and cornering stability. The company has also revised the automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) offered on petrol models, and claims it has improved noise, vibration and harshness levels of its 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre petrol variants with more sound deadening.

Styling changes include a new grille, revised bumper design, underbody bash plates finished in silver at the front and rear of the car, black wheel arch extensions, silver roof rails and 18-inch alloy wheels for all models. The Outlander Aspire has a different 18-inch wheel design and adds LED tail-lights. A new red metallic hue (pictured) also joins the colour palette.

“When we introduced the new generation Outlander, customers told us they really liked Outlander’s cabin space and ergonomics and they were pleasantly surprised by its high level of safety and convenience features, but wanted Outlander to have a more distinctive on-road presence,” said Mitsubishi Australia executive director of marketing Tony Principe.

Inside, the Outlander ES gets new black cloth seat trim, while the LS adds cloth with leather inserts and chromed door handles. Range-topping Aspire models get a silver garnish across the dash and doors.

The updated Outlander range sees only minor price adjustments, with some models rising by only $100. The Outlander line-up will soon include the brand’s first hybrid model, the Outlander PHEV, which is expected to top the range with a price of more than $50,000.

The Outlander comes with a five-year/130,000km warranty and a four-year capped price servicing program.
