Toyota Aygo : All-new city car teased

From Japan via Europe, the new-generation Toyota Aygo city car has been teased ahead of its pending reveal.

The European market Aygo city car slots beneath the Yaris, and is a product of a joint-venture between the Japanese brand and French makers Peugeot and Citroen.

The new Aygo will be revealed at the Geneva motor show in March alongside its Peugeot 108 fraternal twin, and the Citroen C1 version is also expected to bow at the Swiss expo. However, while the Pug is under consideration for an Australian launch in 2015, the Aygo is a no go for us.

“There is definitively no plan at all for the Aygo in Australia,” said Toyota Australia product public relations manager Steve Coughlan.

“As with all Toyota products we’ll continue to study and look at market demand,” he said, before he suggested there’s no space for the car to slot beneath the Yaris.

A teaser video suggests potential customers need to “get ready for fun” as David Terai, chief engineer of the Toyota Aygo, explains.

“What I wanted to do is make a car stand out in the Japanese sense that would catch the spirit of the European people.

“People want to be different, expressive. People want to be individual, they need more choices. We want to design a car that is fun,” Terai said.

Stay tuned for more pictures of the new Aygo as they are released.
