David Brown Automotive : 375kW/625Nm maiden sports car teased

Details and teaser images of what will become the first-ever David Brown Automotive (DBA) model have been released, two months out from its global unveiling.

To be a modern-day classic based on the Jaguar XKR, the upcoming rear wheel drive sports car – dubbed 'Project Judi' – will team a 375kW/625Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Featuring a bespoke exterior and interior, and promising to be "suitably brisk, yet refined", DBA claims the new model will reach 100km/h in 4.6 seconds and hustle on to a top speed in excess of 248km/h – quicker to triple figures than the XKR by 0.8sec but shy of the Jag's 280km/h v-max.

Founder David Brown said his company chose the “thoroughly proven and acclaimed” Jaguar platform due to its ability to fit with the lightweight aluminium design of its new car and because “reliability is vital”.

“Renown for its performance and handling, the XKR has been extensively developed and refined by one of the world’s greatest car manufacturers, making it an obvious choice on which to base our car,” Brown said.

Led by the British businessman, the DBA team includes former Land Rover chief designer Alan Mobberly and has a partnership with automotive engineering company Envisage Group.

Project Judi will be unveiled in full at Monaco’s Top Marques show on April 17.
