Audi A3 Cabriolet pricing confirmed : from $47,300
The cost of entry to the drop-top version of the Audi A3 has dropped for the new-generation model that reaches Australia in June.
The Audi A3 Cabriolet will start at $47,300, nearly $5000 less than before even if it carries a sizeable premium over the equivalent A3 hatch (+$9400) and A3 sedan (+$7500).
An A3 Cabriolet 1.4 TFSI starts a four-model range each featuring a different drivetrain.
The 1.4 TFSI is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 103kW of power and 250Nm of torque, and incorporates cylinder deactivation technology to help save fuel.
A 1.8 TFSI with a 132kW/250Nm turbo 1.8-litre and a 2.0 TDI with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel share a $51,900 price tag.
It’s an extra $3000 if buyers want all-wheel drive rather than front drive, with the 1.8 TFSI quattro available from $54,900.
All engines are teamed with Audi’s S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
A sporty S3 Cabriolet should join the range by the end of 2014.
The 1.4 TFSI COD comes in Attraction trim while the other three models feature higher-spec Ambition. Both trim grades will be similar to those offered on the A3 sedan that was recently launched locally.
The new Audi A3 Cabriolet is this time based on the sedan rather than hatch. It is 180mm longer, 20mm wider, 15mm lower and 90kg lighter than the previous A3 drop-top.
A cloth roof is employed again and can open or close in less than 18 seconds and up to a speed of 50km/h.
Boot space has increased by 27 litres to 287L, and there are 50/50 split-fold rear seatbacks.
