Although the iV-4 concept was seen as a replacement for the rather old Suzuki Jimny (current generation has been around since 1998), the size of the vehicle in the spy photos may even suggest this is a Grand Vitara replacement, another car in the Suzuki lineup that has been around for some time (since 2006).
Our photographers tell us it was being tested jointly with a Suzuki SX-4 and we suspect it will make use of the company's latest ALLGRIP four-wheel-drive system enabling it to continue Suzuki's 4WD reputation of go anywhere SUVs.
Nonetheless, we suspect there will be a front-wheel drive version of the vehicle as well.
At 4215mm long, 1850mm wide, 1665mm tall and riding on a 2500mm wheelbase, the Suzuki iV-4 concept measures more than half a metre longer than the outgoing Jimny and 250mm wider, yet features a 40mm-lower roofline.
Suzuki says the production model will continue to be lightweight and will offer “among the lowest” CO2 emissions in the sub-compact crossover class.
