The new addition to the Mercedes-Benz M-Class line-up costs $7500 more than the entry-level ML250 BlueTec on which it’s based, though Mercedes claims it adds $12,275 in extra features, effectively saving customers $5375.

Compared with the base car, the ML250 BlueTec Special Edition adds 20-inch alloy wheels and active-cornering, adaptive bi-xenon headlights.

The cabin gains heated front seats and a 360-degree camera system, along with blind spot assist and lane departure warning functions.

As with the standard model, the ML250 BlueTec Special Edition is powered by 150kW/500Nm 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which Mercedes claims propels the full-size luxury SUV from 0-100km/h in 9.0 seconds and consumes 6.4 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
