David Brown Automotive to launch modern-day classic British sports car

With grand plans to reinvent the classic British sports car, newly established luxury brand David Brown Automotive (DBA) will launch its maiden model in a matter of months.

Established by British businessman David Brown, DBA has teamed up with automotive engineering company Envisage Group to develop the car for production. Alan Mobberly, who spent almost two decades as chief designer for Land Rover, heads up the new brand’s design team.

While he may envisage a renaissance of the Bond era of classic sports cars, DBA’s David Brown is no relation to his famous namesake – the head of Aston Martin from 1947-1972. Named after Aston Martin’s David Brown, the DB5 (pictured below) is perhaps the most recognised classic James Bond car, featured in Goldfinger (1964).

That’s not to suggest the new vehicle will bear any resemblance to the classic DB5, but with the same name and a focus on classic cars, DBA is certainly gaining a groundswell of interest ahead of the launch.

Brown has confirmed the first cab off the rank, codenamed ‘Project Judi’, won’t be an update of an existing model. The exterior and interior designs will be based on classic British sports cars and combine the latest manufacturing techniques with traditional craftsmanship.

“I wanted all the impact and style of a classic sports car, but with modern capabilities and conveniences,” Brown said.

“This is what I want in a car, but it’s not something anyone really offers. So, I’ve created it myself.”

‘Project Judi’ will be unveiled in April, with strictly limited numbers available. More information, including the name of the car, will be released as the launch date draws closer.
