Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing: production specifications revealed

Specifications for the production version of the Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing have been announced, largely mirroring its concept variant seen earlier this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Sharing the concept car’s matte grey ‘textured’ paintwork – designed to feel like shark skin – the Citroen DS3 Cabrio-based Racing also gains Carmin red accents on its carbonfibre front splitter, doors and brake calipers. Citroen says the crimson hue is now the official colour of its DS range, and will feature on many of its new models.

A carbonfibre rear diffuser and side skirts and a chrome-tipped twin-exhaust have all made the transition from concept to production car, as have gloss black 19-inch wheels, blistered wheel arches and black chrome trim. It is not yet known whether the concept's DS-patterned roof will also be carried over.

Inside, the DS3 Cabrio Racing features ‘Moondust Grey’ trim for its dash, centre console and seats, with the latter retaining the concept's watch-strap style leather detailing. The car’s steering wheel inserts and fascia panel receive faux carbonfibre highlights. Carmin red is again used throughout the interior, for the car’s dash and door panels.

Every DS3 Cabrio Racing will receive an individually numbered badge on the base of its gearshift lever, and a ‘Citroen Racing’ signature embroidered on the headrests of the front seats.

The Cabrio will share the same 154kW 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine from the Racing hatch of 2011, though with a weight penalty of around 25kg, is expected to reach 100km/h in a little over 6.5 seconds. It will also receive chassis tweaks from Citroen's WRC team, aimed at improving the Cabrio's handling compared to the regular DS3 drop-top.

Auto Express reports the Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing will be officially unveiled in January, with production limited to around 400 vehicles.

There is no word yet as to whether the Citroen DS3 Cabrio Racing will reach Australia, however the Racing hatch was ruled out for local sale due to the costs involved in conforming with Australian Design Rules (ADRs).
