Lamborghini Gallardo successor spied, ‘Huracan’ name rumoured

The Lamborghini Cabrera has been spied testing alongside its 10-year-old predecessor, amid suggestions the new supercar will be unveiled at March's Geneva motor show wearing the name 'Huracan'.

Snapped free of heavy cladding by CarAdvice's spy photographers last month, Auto Express reports the upcoming Lamborghini Gallardo replacement will take its name from the Spanish word for hurricane - a name the Sant'Agata based manufacturer trademarked back in April 2012.

A wide, low stance ensures the Huracan looks the part, along with its arrow-like LED headlights, gaping front and side air intakes and an aggressive rear end dominated by four large-diameter exhaust pipes, a rear diffuser and new LED tail-lights.

Still unconfirmed, performance is expected to come from a revised version of the current Gallardo's 5.2-litre V10 tuned to produce around 450kW. It produces 419kW and 540Nm in current LP570-4 Squadra Corse guise.

Developed alongside the next-generation Audi R8, the Lamborghini Huracan will be an auto-only beast, with the Gallardo's standard manual dropped in favour of a seven-speed dual-clutch unit with steering wheel-mounted paddleshifters.

The Gallardo cemented its place in the Italian marque's history as its best-ever selling model, shifting 14,022 units between its 2003 launch and its production end on November 25, 2013.
