Hyundai Intrado concept previews new design language, fuel cell system

The Intrado concept – which takes its name from the underside of an aircraft's wing – is the result of close collaboration between Hyundai's European design and engineering teams in Russelsheim, Germany.

The high-riding yet sleekly styled Hyundai Intrado concept is the first inspired by the brand’s new ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’ design philosophy, which has purposeful styling and the use of advanced and lightweight materials at its core.

The rear quarter sketch reveals a compact crossover design with coupe-style lines and muscular haunches surrounding oversized wheels, giving an insight into Hyundai’s vision for a sub-ix35 SUV to rival the likes of the Nissan Juke.

The Intrado concept is powered by a new hydrogen fuel cell drivetrain that Hyundai claims is smaller and lighter than the system powering the ix35 Fuel Cell production model.

Hyundai also says the Intrado’s chassis and body frame are joined using a “revolutionary technique” that has the potential to “change the way cars are constructed in the future”.

Hyundai will release more information on the Intrado concept ahead of its Geneva debut on March 4.
