Proton Exora: Australia’s cheapest seven-seater launches from $25,990 driveaway

The Proton Exora has launched in Australia priced from $25,990 driveaway, confirming its status as the country's cheapest seven-seater.

Available in two trim specifications, the entry-level Exora GX and the Exora GXR priced at $27,990 driveaway, the Proton Exora starts $4000 cheaper than the all-new seven-seat Kia Rondo and second-generation Ssangyong Stavic – both currently $29,990 driveaway. Confirming reports from late last year, the price also betters the previous generation Rondo's $25,990 before on-road costs starting point.

Powered by a newly developed turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine developing 103kW at 5000rpm and 205Nm between 2000-4000rpm, the Exora claims combined cycle fuel consumption of 8.2 litres per 100km.

Both trim levels exclusively drive the front wheels through a 'six-speed' continuously variable transmission (CVT).

With a 60:40-split reclinable second seating row and a 50:50-split third, the 4592mm-long, 1809mm-wide and 1691mm-high Exora is 67mm longer, 4mm wider and 81mm taller than a Kia Rondo. It also rides on a 2730mm wheelbase – 160mm longer than the South Korean people mover.

Standard features include cloth trim, air conditioning for all three rows, a ceiling-mounted DVD player, Bluetooth connectivity, steering wheel-mounted audio and phone controls, LED tail-lights, 16-inch alloy wheels and a full-size spare.

The entry-level GX also comes standard with reversing sensors, while the GXR gains a reversing camera.

Further distinguishing the top-spec model are cruise control, daytime running lights, chrome exterior touches, a rear spoiler, folding side mirrors, leather upholstery, silver interior trim highlights, two vanity mirrors and third-row grab handles.

Despite both models having dual front and front-row side airbags, stability control and anti-lock brakes, the Proton Exora only earns a four-star ANCAP safety rating.

Available in six colours – Solid White, Latte Gold, Genetic Silver, Cocoa Grey, Plum Red, and Tranquillity Black – the Proton Exora comes with the Malaysian car maker's five-year/150,000km warranty as well as five years/75,000km free servicing and five years/150,000km free roadside assist.
