Mercedes-Benz GLK interior spied

The interior of the next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLK has been uncovered in a revealing set of spy shots.

The images, captured by CarAdvice's spy photographers in Germany, confirm the cabin of the mid-sized luxury SUV will be almost identical to that of the next-generation C-Class (revealed in detail last month) on which the GLK will be based.

The focal point of the GLK’s interior is the large ‘floating’ central screen that sits high on the dashboard, which, as in the C-Class, is expected to come in standard seven-inch and optional 8.4-inch sizes.

The boomerang-shaped COMAND system controller positioned ahead of the centre armrest allows intelligent smartphone-style fingertip operation of the infotainment system’s functions.

The spy photos, which come five weeks after we published exterior shots of a camouflaged test car, give an unhindered look at the centre stack of the second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLK. Three circular air vents sit prominently between the central screen and an elegant strip of climate controls. The CD player is positioned at the base of the console above a large storage bin with cup holders.

The GLK’s four-spoke 12-button steering wheel and instrument cluster also appear identical to those of the upcoming C-Class. The cluster features a large digital display between two analogue binnacles.

Like the C-Class, the new Mercedes-Benz GLK is expected to gain head-up display technology, projecting vehicle speed, speed limit, navigation instructions and other driving information.

Mercedes-Benz Australia last year announced its intentions to add the new GLK to the local range. It’s expected to arrive in Australian showrooms in 2015, joining the GLA, ML, GL and G models in the brand’s expansive SUV range.

The GLK will provide the local division with a much-needed rival for the popular Audi Q5 and BMW X3, filling a gaping hole in the current line-up.
