Daihatsu FC Deco Deck, Deca Deca: Tokyo-bound ‘kei cars’ revealed

Daihatsu has revealed two more 'kei car' concepts bound for this month's Tokyo motor show, seemingly shrinking a truck and a minivan in the process.

As with the three Daihatsu Kopen concepts revealed last week – and the Honda S660 concept – the FC Deco Deck truck and Deca Deca minivan fit into the Japanese domestic market’s miniature ‘kei car’ class of vehicle.

The FC Deco Deck concept is a zero-emission truck that is around 300mm longer than a Toyota iQ but more than 200mm narrower than the micro-sized city car.

Powered by an underfloor “precious metal-free” liquid fuel cell system, the FC Deco Deck also comes equipped with its own, self-contained, compact fuel cell generator capable of running without external power.

Despite the car’s size, Daihatsu says the Deca Deca (pictured below) offers a “sense of openness on a par with any van or people carrier on the market”.

Drawing on Daihatsu’s new ‘super space’ concept, the 1850mm tall Deca Deca concept features a high seating position, various sliding and folding seating configurations and large suicide-style doors intended to improve load utility.

The FC Deco Deck and Deca Deca will be on display at Daihatsu’s Tokyo motor show stand once doors open on November 20.
