Jaguar F-Type coupe: first official image

The first image of the Jaguar F-Type coupe has been released ahead of its world premiere, revealing it will be available with a large panoramic glass roof.

Dubbed "the most dynamically capable, performance-focused, production Jaguar ever" by the British brand, the all-aluminium Jaguar F-Type coupe will closely mirror the design of the C-X16 concept car (bottom image) first seen at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show.

Spied testing at Germany’s Nurburgring in June and August, the F-Type coupe will be lighter and faster than the F-Type roadster and will score performance focused R, R-S and R-S GT variants.

The F-Type coupe is set to carry over the convertible’s engine line-up, offering 250kW/450Nm and 280kW/460Nm tunes of a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 and a 364kW/625Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8. The 404kW/680Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8 from the XKR-S and XFR-S is also tipped to feature sometime after launch.

Jaguar design director Ian Callum says while the company has been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the F-Type convertible, for him the purity of creating a sports coupe is uniquely satisfying.

“I know that both visually and dynamically, F-Type coupe raises the bar yet again,” Callum said.

The Jaguar F-Type coupe will make its global debut on November 19 before appearing at both the Tokyo and Los Angeles auto shows on November 20.

Jaguar Australia has confirmed the new hardtop will go on sale locally from the third quarter of 2014.

The F-Type convertible debuted at the 2012 Paris motor show and launched in Australia in July, priced from $139,000. It's possible Jaguar may follow Porsche's lead with the Boxster and Cayman and charge extra for the fixed-roof variant.
