Koenigsegg One:1 has 450km/h top speed, 20sec 0-400km/h in its sights

Expected performance figures of the upcoming Koenigsegg One:1 hypercar have been revealed by the Swedish brand's founder, including staggering acceleration times.

Speaking with Bloomberg Businessweek, Christian von Koenigsegg said the Koenigsegg One:1 – due to be begin prototype testing later this year – will be the fastest Koenigsegg yet, with a top speed of 450km/h or more.

That figure would see it comfortably surpass the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport’s speed-limited top speed of 415km/h, the 427km/h-setting Hennessey Venom GT and the derestricted Super Sport’s 430.98km/h recorded top speed.

Dubbed the One:1 after its goal of becoming the first production car to achieve a one-to-one power-to-weight ratio, the time-warping model is to weigh 1400kg and produce 1030kW (1400hp).

Von Koenigsegg says his ratio will be a wet weight, taking into account all fluids and even the driver.

“Other cars have achieved this [power to weight ratio] but by measuring dry weight – no oil, no water, no fuel.”

Based on the car’s planned specifications, computer projections suggest the One:1 will be the fastest-accelerating car in the world from 0-200, 0-300 and 0-400km/h. Engineers at the high-performance manufacturer expect the latter to take around 20 seconds – less than half the time it takes the Bugatti Veyron to reach the same target (45 seconds).

Limited to a production run of only six cars – all already presold – von Koenigsegg is yet to make the price of the One:1 public, saying only it will be “substantially higher” than that of the 758kW/1100Nm Agera S, a car that reportedly changed hands for $4.5m. Even with the astronomical cost, the 42-year-old admits his company will almost certainly lose money on the project.

Though cost may make his cars unattainable to many, von Koenigsegg points out that skill is one barrier his cars don’t have with every model coming with a plethora of “safety nets” including traction control, stability control and anti-lock brakes.

“This makes the cars very easy to handle and very safe in any driving condition,” von Koenigsegg says.

“Anyone with common sense and a driver’s licence can safely handle a Koenigsegg.”

The technological advancements and innovations learned through the research and development of the Koenigsegg One:1 are expected to find their way into future models from the exclusive marque.
