Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse: officially unveiled

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse has been officially unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.

As its name suggests, this latest and most extreme model in the Gallardo line-up has been developed by Lamborghini’s new racing department Squadra Corse and features many of the same components used on the Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo racing car.

The Gallardo Squadra Corse uses the same 419kW/540Nm naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine as the race car, which itself is identical to that used in the standard Lamborghini Gallardo road car. It sprints from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.4 seconds and reaches 200km/h in 10.4 seconds. Top speed is 320km/h.

Like the racing car, the new Gallardo comes as standard with Lamborghini’s robotised six-speed e-gear transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

The hardcore Gallardo Squadra Corse gets the same carbon composite rear wing as the Super Trofeo car for increased downforce and stability during high-speed cornering, along with the racer's quick-release engine cover.

A carbon composite bonnet is also included further helping cut the Squadra Corse's weight down to 1340kg – 70kg lighter than the standard Gallardo road car.

Only 50 examples of the Gallardo Squadra Corse are planned for production, priced at 191,100 euros ($272,967) plus tax.
