Bugatti Veyron Legend Jean Bugatti: second special edition revealed

The Bugatti Veyron Legend Jean Bugatti has been unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.

The second car in a six-model ‘Legend’ series, and following the ‘Jean-Pierre Wimille’ edition revealed last August, the Bugatti Veyron Legend Jean Bugatti shares the same specifications as the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, meaning a quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre W16 engine sends 882kW and 1500Nm to all four wheels.

As its name would suggest, the Veyron-in-black is named after Jean Bugatti, eldest son of founder Ettore Bugatti and designer of the Type 57SC Atlantic, one of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction.

“The Bugatti 57SC Atlantic is an icon. For many, it is one of the most elegant and valuable sports cars in automotive history”, says Bugatti president Wolfgang Schreiber.

The Veyron Legend’s body is constructed from jet black, clear-coated carbonfibre, and features diamond cut wheels and Jean Bugatti’s signature lasered onto the car’s petrol and oil cap.

Aside from making the Veyron look particularly menacing, the car’s colour pays homage to Jean Bugatti’s personal Type 57SC, La Voiture Noire (The Black Car), which disappeared in the aftermath of the Second World War.

If that doesn’t convince you the hypercar is worth its 2.3 million euros ($3.3 million), then perhaps the platinum accents used for the front grille and rear logo will.

Inside, the car’s brown-on-beige interior further references the Type 57SC's colour scheme as does contrasting stitching on the door panels and rear storage compartment.

Platinum is further sprinkled across the car’s steering wheel logo and rosewood is used for the gear-selector lever.

Just three Bugatti Veyron Legend Jean Bugatti models will be built, one less than the total number of Type 57SC Atlantics built between 1936 and 1938, but one more than the total number of Type 57SC’s that still exist.
