Coming a day after BMW officially released a shadowy 30-second teaser clip revealing elements of the plug-in hybrid sports car, three official-looking images, first published by Autoblog Deutschland, have hit the net.
In profile, the BMW i8's sleek lines, front-hinged scissor doors and LED tail-lights are joined by a thick side skirt highlighted by a blue strip.
Inside we see a cabin not far removed from BMW's current crop of luxury cars with a three-spoke steering wheel, digital interment cluster and a dash-mounted display screen linked to the petrol-electric model's iDrive infotainment system.
The final image shows the i8's underpinnings and powerplant, the latter comprising a 170kW/320Nm turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and a 96kW/250Nm electric motor for a combined system output of 266kW and 570Nm.
Promising 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds or less, the BMW i8 will be unveiled in full in Frankfurt on September 10.
