Honda NSX heard for the first time

Honda has released a very brief clip of the all-new Honda NSX prototype that is set to hit the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on August 4 immediately before the flag drops on the Honda Indy 200 IndyCar race.

Wrapped in light and dark blue Acura livery – the badge it will wear in the US – the new-generation Honda NSX keeps the sharp styling of the NSX concept seen at last year’s Detroit auto show and features the upcoming production car’s mid-engined, three-motor hybrid powertrain.

The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system combines torque vectoring all-wheel-drive technology with hybrid efficiency through the use of three electric motors – one integrated with the petrol engine and two motors driving the front wheels.

A Japanese icon that traces its history back to the early 1990s, the NSX was originally developed with the help of three-time Formula One World Champion Aytron Senna – recently remembered by Honda in another clip.

Production of the new-generation Honda NSX is set to start at the newly established Performance Manufacturing Centre in Marysville, Ohio in 2015.
