Citroen C-Elysee WTCC racer revealed

Citroen has revealed details about its entrant into the World Touring Car Championship, the 2014 Citroen C-Elysee WTCC.

The Citroen will debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September featuring a 283kW/400Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine.

The Citroen C-Elysee sports an aggressive fascia with a carbonfibre front spoiler, as well as a ventilated bonnet, unique side skirts and flared wheel arches. Around the back, it’s hard to miss the enormous rear wing, rear diffuser and 18-inch wheels.

Power is sent to the front wheels viaa six-speed sequential transmission and a mechanical self-locking differential, motivating the sedan's 1100kg mass.

Citroen CEO Frederic Banzet said the car maker chose to use the C-Elysee, which is produced mainly for the Russian and Chinese markets, as the basis for its touring car to inject some racing passion into Citroen’s model range.

“With rounds in Latin America, Morocco, China and Russia, the WTCC race calendar is genuinely global, and it will be a real advantage to run a C-Elysee, a key driver of our growth [in emerging markets], in front of large crowds and enthusiastic motorsport fans.”
