Alfa Romeo 4C tears up Italian test track

Footage of the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C getting sideways and smoking its tyres around a test track has been released.

Filmed at the Balocco test track in Italy, the clip shows the Alfa Romeo 4C being put through its paces in wet and dry conditions, over crests and around bends with generous amounts of opposite lock being applied.

The video follows an earlier clip of Spanish racing driver Marc Gene taking passengers for a ‘spirited’ test drive around a closed circuit.

Weighing under 1000kg and powered by a 176kW 1.8-litre direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, the Alfa Romeo 4C claims to bring up 100km/h from standstill in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 250km/h.

The mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive sports car is expected to reach local shores in mid 2014 with a targeted price tag of below $80,000.
