The Nissan Leaf Nismo Performance Package has been released in its home market, offering buyers sharper looks, improved performance and greater EV range.
Coming a week after the Nissan Almera Nismo Performance Package concept was unveiled in Malaysia, the Nissan Leaf Nismo Performance Package includes exterior and interior upgrades as well as a retuned vehicle control module (VCM).
Promising more spirited performance from the Leaf’s 80kW280Nm all-electric powertrain, the “Sports Resetting” VCM tune is also claimed to increase the car’s cruising range as a result of technology learnt from the development of the Nissan Leaf Nismo RC that debuted at the New York auto show in 2011.
Based on the recently facelifted version of the EV, the Performance Package sees the addition of a new front bumper and front lip with LED daytime running lights, side skirts, and a rear bumper with a built-in fog light. Nismo says the aero changes improve airflow and reduce front and rear lift.
A carbonfibre rear spoiler and 18-inch Nismo Black and Diamond cut aluminium wheels complete the exterior modifications.
The full kit also includes options for sports suspension, carbonfibre pillar garnishes, carbonfibre door mirror covers and Nismo branded floor mats.
The Nissan Leaf Nismo Performance Package is available now in Japan at a cost of around $8700 – more if parts are selected in carbonfibre instead of fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP).
Nismo was named as Nissan’s official high-performance division at the start of the year, with models including the Nissan GT-R Nismo, 370Z Nismo and Nissan Juke Nismo coming from its stables.
In May, Nissan announced a $7000 price cut to the Leaf, reducing its local price to $39,990 driveaway until October 30.
