Tata Nano updated: world’s cheapest car to get CNG engine

The updated Tata Nano has been unveiled in India, with the world's cheapest car set to offer a new compressed natural gas engine.

Unveiled at the Horizonext event in Pune, the lightly revised Tata Nano scores a new chrome strip detail at the front and back, wider air intakes and three new exterior colours.

Along with the introduction of remote keyless entry, twin gloveboxes, and a four-speaker audio system with USB/AUX and Bluetooth connectivity, the now “even more exciting” Tata Nano is also available fitted with one of four “stylish” Nano Personalisation Kits – dubbed Jet, Alpha, Remix, and Peach – enabling owners to uniquely customise their Nano.

Available in dealerships from next month, the updated rear-wheel-drive Nano keeps its 28kW/51Nm 624cc petrol engine, which will later be joined by a 24kW/45Nm 624cc compressed natural gas variant called the Nano eMax.

At the same event, Tata also revealed a new Tata Indigo eCS, Tata Sumo Gold, Tata Indica and an Explorer Edition of the Tata Safari Storme SUV.

Pricing for the new Tata Nano starts at Rs 1.50 lakh ($2721).
