Lamborghini Gallardo replacement prototype spied

The first images of what is believed to be the Lamborghini Gallardo replacement have gone public.

Appearing as a prototype, the images come just days after reports the long-awaited successor to the Gallardo will be unveiled in concept car form at this September’s Frankfurt motor show.

Spied by regular car-spotter Marchettino and uploaded to his Facebook page, the two images reveal a ground-hugging supercar with clear lineage to the Gallardo.

At the front, narrow, angular headlights sit above an aggressive front bumper with gaping air intakes while two additional large air intakes also feature, mounted low ahead of the rear wheels and high behind the rear quarter window.

From the rear, a large opening spanning the width the car can be seen – allowing the expected circa-440kW 5.2-litrenaturally aspirated V10 to expel heat – along with four large-aperture exhaust tips.

While no official word on the car has been given by the Sant’Agata-based firm, the name ‘Cabrera’ has been rumoured for the production car, internally codenamed LP724.

Whatever its final title, the new supercar has big shoes to fill, with the Lamborghini Gallardo being the Italian manufacturer’s best-ever selling model.
