Honda Accord Hybrid loses plug-in capability for Japan
The 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid has been teased on the manufacturer's Japanese website ahead of its official unveiling later this month.
The Honda Accord Hybrid sedan bound for the Japanese domestic market differs from the Honda Accord PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) released onto the US market earlier this year as it isn't not fitted with the that model’s plug-in charging technology. It does, however, share its blue-tinted grille and LED headlights.
The teased images show a luxury-spec interior with a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear selector, digital instrument cluster, and a dash-mounted eight-inch display screen and smaller touchscreen positioned into the centre console.
Though official powertrain details will be released following the Honda Accord Hybrid's full reveal on June 20, a two-motor hybrid system comprising a 102kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine and a 105kW electric motor has been suggested. A claimed fuel consumption figure of 3.3 litres per 100km, nearly one litre off the plug-in's 2.4L/100km figure, is also displayed next to the car.
While the new ninth-generation Honda Accord went on sale locally in May, powered by a 129kW/225Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder and a 206kW/339Nm 3.5-litre V6, Honda Australia told CarAdvice that both hybrid models are under consideration for addition to the local line-up, though, there are no current plans to launch them and definitely not in 2014.
Honda Australia’s current line-up of hybrids includes the Insight, CR-Z, Honda Jazz Hybrid and Civic Hybrid.
