Schumacher drives Nurburgring, Hamilton and Rosberg drive A45 AMG

Seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher has lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in an F1 car as part of a demonstration event in Germany.

An event announced by Mercedes-Benz last month as a thank you to Schumacher’s fans following his second retirement from Formula 1 at the end of the 2012 season, the lap saw the German driver steer a 2011-specification Mercedes AMG W02 F1 car around the famous 20.8km track.

Schumacher was joined on track by a Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, an E63 AMG S-Model, an SLS AMG Black Series and an SLS AMG GT3 driven by Bernd Schneider, Bernd Maylander, Karl Wendlinger, and current Mercedes AMG F1 driver Nico Rosberg.

Rosberg also features in a new ad released by the German manufacturer, sitting shotgun alongside his British teammate Lewis Hamilton in the new 265kW/450Nm all-wheel-drive Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, with the two young racers arguing over who should drive.

Referenced with the tagline, "Compact insanity", the A45 AMG hatch, powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and claimed to hit 100km/h in 4.6 seconds, will be priced from $74,900 when it lands in Australia in September.
