The latest iteration of the video game that Microsoft claims is the highest-rated racing franchise of the past 10 years, Forza Motorsport 5 promises to set a new benchmark for racing games with an even greater sensation of being behind the wheel of a real car.
Teased with a video showing the all-new McLaren P1 hybrid hypercar and its legendary predecessor, the McLaren F1, chasing each other through a tight street circuit, Forza Motorsport 5 will be one of a handful of new games available for the Xbox One from its launch, with an expected release date around the end of the year.
The new Xbox One console features advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) that adapts to the way games are played, a new generation of multiplayer gaming called Smart Match, an all-new achievements system, a game recorder that keeps a record of recent gameplay, and a new Kinect sensor.
Developed by Turn 10 Studios, Forza Motorsport first broke onto the world stage in 2005 before being followed by Forza Motorsport 2 in 2007, Forza Motorsport 3 in 2009 and Forza Motorsport 4 in 2011. Released last year, Forza Horizon was a Need for Speed-style spin-off of the franchise.
Full details of Forza 5, including car and track lists, are due ahead of the game’s 2013 release.
The reveal from Microsoft comes less than a week after Sony previewed the latest version of its own long-time PlayStation racing simulator, Gran Turismo, at an event at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit marking the game’s 15th anniversary.
