2014 Toyota Corolla sedan teased ahead of June 6 debut

The tightly cropped image reveals part of the rear corner of the new Toyota Corolla sedan, and confirms the production model will draw inspiration from the Toyota Corolla Furia concept (pictured below) that debuted at January's Detroit auto show.

The teaser image reveals a sleek tail-light design spanning the rear-quarter panel and the bootlid and a lip spoiler – both inherited from the aggressively styled concept. The production car’s ‘S’ badging also points towards Toyota’s intention to boost the sporting qualities of the new sedan.

Speaking at the unveiling of the Corolla Furia concept, Toyota Group vice president and general manager of the Toyota division, Bill Fay, promised the new-generation Corolla sedan would abandon the conservative styling of the outgoing model.

“Not only will the styling be more expressive, but it will also reflect our overall approach to the compact segment in every way,” Fay said.

“Because young buyers are returning to the market at a faster rate than any generation, the next Corolla must have expressive appeal with improved styling that elicits surprise and excitement.

“I’m sure it will cause some surprise from those who may have preconceived notions about the future of Corolla.”

At 4620mm long (2700mm wheelbase), 1805mm wide and 1425mm tall, the Toyota Corolla Furia concept is 75mm longer (100mm longer between the wheels), 45mm wider and 50mm lower than the current Corolla sedan, which continues to be sold alongside the new-generation Corolla hatch that launched in Australia in October 2012.

The new Toyota Corolla sedan is expected to launch in Australia during the first half of 2014.
