BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe concept hints at new 8 Series

The first teaser images of the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe have been released ahead of the concept's unveiling at next week's 2013 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Como, Itay.

Described by BMW as the "embodiment of sheer elegance", the Gran Lusso Coupe concept represents the duo's vision for the high-end ultra-luxury class, potentially hinting at the German manufacturer's desire to bring back the BMW 8 Series badge of the 80s and 90s with a 7 Series-based two-door.

The BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe concept attempts to straddle the past and future of automotive design, with the BMW/Pininfarina partnership encouraging the fusion of unique design impulses in the pursuit of new levels of character, personality, elegance and exclusivity.

Signature BMW design elements of a long wheelbase, stretched bonnet, short overhangs and a sloping roofline team with generous panel surfaces and taut contours. A shallow greenhouse slices along the concept’s dynamic profile, while V12 badges on the rear pillars hint subtly at the fury beneath the bonnet.

While the concept’s interior remains under wraps for now, BMW promises a “consummate blend of contemporary elegance and luxury”, combining the car maker’s classic theme of driver focus with new touches from Pininfarina’s influence.

The BWM Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe concept is the sequel to last year’s BMW Z4-based Zagato Coupe concept and will be on display at Villa Erba, Como between May 24-26.
