Mercedes-Benz S-Class: leaked brochure reveals specifications

A brochure for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been leaked online, revealing both images and details about the all-new model ahead of its official reveal later this week.

Three engines are listed in the specifications page of the German Mercedes-Benz S-Class brochure, which was first published on Germancarforum, two of which carry-over from the current S-Class range.

The 335kW/700Nm 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8-powered S500 runs 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the outgoing model thanks to a 10kW increase in power and 15kg decrease in weight.

Also a carry-over, the 190kW/620Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 S350 does 0-100km/h in 6.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than before. Despite no power or torque increase, a kerb weight of 1955kg is a full 40kg less than before.

New to the range, the S400 Hybrid makes 225kW and 370Nm from its 3.5-litre petrol V6 engine, but curiously the brochure does not outline figures for the electric motor.

Combined consumption of just 6.3L/100km is also matched by a 6.8 second 0-100km/h in the 1925kg petrol-electric limousine.

The scanned images in the brochure show the exterior of both the higher-end S500 grade of the luxury limousine inadvertently shown on the manufacturer’s Austrian website earlier this month, in addition to a lower-spec car seen for the first time. Also shown are the interior trim, colour palette and dimensions.

Wearing the same number plates as the S-Class caught by CarAdvice’s spy photographers in March, the silver brochure car features LED headlight and tail-lights, chrome details around the windows and exhaust pipes, and 18-inch 14-spoke alloy wheels.

The blue car trades an aggressive front bumper for a tamer, smoother item, and wears smaller 17-inch alloy wheels, but still keeps the 5116mm-long – 5246mm for the long wheelbase version – and 2130mm-wide sedan’s sleek proportions and chiselled lines that visually link the new S-Class to the CLA and CLS.

While the interior of the higher specification car has been seen before in a batch of official images and is highlighted by a high-end wood grain trim and white leather upholstery, the brochure shows an alternate interior with black leather covering the seats and steering wheel and a different grade of wood trim employed.

Photos explaining the S-Class’ Magic Body Control, Road Surface Scan, Distronic Plus and Pre-Safe technologies are also included.

Full details will be announced once the all-new sixth-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is officially unveiled at a special event in Hamburg, Germany on Wednesday, before the car makes its arrival into local showrooms around the end of the year.
