Renault teases new high-performance EV concept

Renault previously toyed with the idea of a performance-oriented electric vehicle when it presented the DeZir Concept at the 2010 Paris motor show, but now the French car maker has promised to reveal a serious high-performance EV at its Valladolid plant in Spain later this week.

Renault has beed downright cryptic in the lead-up to car's unveiling except to say that it will boast “muscular styling and impressive performance credentials”.

It has also indicated its latest concept “provides a bridge between the world of Formula 1 and that of electric vehicles”.

It could be a new Alpine concept, building on the design of last year's dramatic V6-powered A110-50 concept, although apart from the above image, Renault is offering nothing further until Thursday April 25.

Renault and alliance partner Nissan are at the forefront of electric vehicle technology, with vehicles like the Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf among the most popular zero-emission cars in the world.
