Red Bull signs first-ever female racer to junior team

Red Bull has signed its first-ever female racing driver to its Junior Team development squad.

Eighteen-year-old Beitske Visser from the Netherlands started karting when she was five years old before karting competitively at age seven.

The 174cm tall Visser moved into open wheel racing in 2012 driving for Lotus/Motopark in the ADAC Formel Masters, where she steered her 106kW 1.6-litre Volkswagen-powered Dallara to two race wins in her first season.

The ADAC Formel Masters series is a championship for young German-based racing drivers, now it its sixth season.

In a further boost for Visser’s Lotus team, one of her teammates, 16-year-old South African Callan O'Keeffe, has also been signed to the Red Bull Junior Team stepping up from the Formula BMW Talent Cup open-wheeler series.

The signing of the young motorsport talent comes laden with expectation, with big-name graduates of the Red Bull Junior Team including three-time Formula One World Champion and Infiniti Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel, Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo, his Toro Rosso teammate Jean-Eric Vergne and former Toro Rosso drivers Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi.

The Red Bull Junior Team program was developed in 2001 to identify potential future open wheel racing talent.
