The new Ford Kuga is available in three model variants (Ambiente, Trend and Titanium), in front- and all-wheel drive, and with either 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine or a 2.0-litre Duratorq turbo-diesel.
Available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, the $27,990 front-wheel-drive base Kuga Ambiente delivers 110kW and 240Nm from the 1.6-litre unit, and returns fuel consumption of 6.7 litres per 100km and 157 grams of CO2
per kilometre with the aid of automatic engine stop-start. In all-wheel-drive guise with a six-speed automatic in place, the figures jump to 134kW, 7.7L/100km and 179g/km. Trend and Titanium spec AWD Kuga’s achieve 8.0L/100km and 186g/km.
Strictly an all-wheel-drive proposition, the 120kW/340Nm diesel-powered Ford Kuga employs a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to see figures as low as 6.3L/100km and 166g/km (depending on specification level).
Now 81mm longer, 4mm narrower and 8mm lower than the previous-gen model – but sharing the same 2690mm wheelbase – Ford says the new Kuga brings with it significantly improved packaging and interior space, with extra attention paid to rear-seat passengers and the luggage compartment, which is now 46 litres larger at 406 litres.
Along with a hands-free tailgate and Ford’s ‘intelligent’ all-wheel-drive system with Torque Vectoring Control, the new Kuga also boasts voice-activated Ford SYNC connectivity technology with Emergency Assistance – the latter able to notify emergency services of the vehicle’s GPS co-ordinates via a paired Bluetooth phone if airbag deployment is detected or the emergency fuel shut-off has been activated.
The five-star ANCAP-rated Kuga features seven airbags (including a driver’s knee airbag), electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, trailer stability function and hill launch assist, and rear parking sensors. The Ford Kuga Titanium also benefits from active park assist as standard.
An optional $2650 ‘Technology Pack’ is additionally available on Trend and Titanium models and includes active city stop, adaptive cruise control, blind spot assist, lane keep assist and lane departure warning as well as auto high beam control and a driver impairment monitor.
The new Ford Kuga is available in seven colours – Frozen White, Panther Black, Ink Blue, Moondust Silver, Burnished Glow, Ginger Ale and Sterling Grey – and is covered under the Blue Oval’s myFord capped-price servicing scheme.
