Auspost picks Renault vans

Renault Australia has secured a big win for its commercial vehicles with Australia Post picking the French brand to drive the nation’s mail.

Switching from Mercedes-Benz Vito and Sprinter, AusPost is set to change its fleet of vans to Renault Traffic and Master following a yearlong tender process that saw nine brands bid for the business.

Renault Australia’s Managing Director, Jason Hocevar, told CarAdvice that the deal represents one of Australia’s largest van contracts and that it’s ideal for Renault as its vehicles will be associated with one of Australia’s most iconic brands.

Although volume and specific details of the deal remain confidential, Hocevar did say that it was multi-year and that Renault worked very closely with Auspost to find a customized solution.

Renault’s commercial arm has consistently remained the backbone of the company’s business, having led the European market for the last 15 years in a row.

In 2012 Renault sold 430 Masters and 432 Trafics in Australia. That number is expected to jump significantly following the AusPost deal.
