2009 Renault Mégane sedan spied

The next Renault Mégane sedan has been spied during winter testing on the snow-covered streets of northern Scandinavia.

Though much of its design has already been revealed with the new Renault Mégane hatch launched at the Paris Motor Show last year, the transition to a sedan shape still holds a few aesthetic secrets.

While hardly causing a sales storm here in Australia, the Mégane is a crucial competitor for the Peugeot 308, Fiat Bravo and VW Golf VI in the South and East European and South American markets.

The sedan is only the second in a growing range of diverse variants due to eventually form the Mégane line-up, all based on sister-company Nissan’s Qashqai platform.

The eventual line-up will of course include a 3- and 5-door hatchback and sedan models, but there is room for a coupe, convertible, station wagon and probably a crossover body-style to follow.

A potent performance model is also already in development based on the Mégane hatch which is sure to be a scorcher, with Renault having produced some of the most brilliant yet underrated hot hatches in the past.
