Ford Falcon tyre recall: sizing error affects 372 cars

A series of FG and FG Mk2 Ford Falcon models have been recalled due to the fitment of incorrectly sized tyres.

A total of 372 FG and FG Mk2 Ford Falcon XT EcoLPi sedans built from September 13, 2011 to February 10, 2012 have been recalled after being incorrectly fitted with the wrong size tyres. While the correct tyre measures 225/55/R16, tyres measuring 215/60/R16 were fitted to the affected models.

The official recall notice published on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website explains incorrect size tyres may "adversely affect handling of the vehicle and may increase the risk of an accident”.

Ford Australia’s Neil McDonald told CarAdvice there have been no reports of any incidents stemming from the problem and confirmed Ford was investigating when and how the error occurred.

Ford is notifying owners of the affected cars by mail to organise the fitment of a correctly sized set of tyres which should take approximately two hours.

In 2011, 18,741 Ford Falcons were sold across Australia, falling to 14,036 in 2012.
