Subaru WRX STI headed to Nurburgring 24-Hour race

A race-spec Subaru WRX STI will compete in this year’s Nurburgring 24-hour race as the Japanese manufacturer gets set for its sixth consecutive entry into the endurance event.

The four-door Subaru WRX STI sedan will be entered into the SP3T class for turbocharged cars with engine capacities of two litres or less. The Japanese racer will feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged Boxer engine producing 250kW and 461Nm and a six-speed sequential transmission.

Along with a larger under spoiler, modified bonnet duct, overfenders, rear diffuser, and relocated fuel tank, the racing Subaru WRX STI will also be equipped with a lightweight flywheel, Bilstein dampers, six-piston front and four-piston rear AP Racing brake calipers, a Recaro driver’s seat, and 18-inch BBS forged magnesium wheels with Dunlop rubber.

Two Japanese drivers, Toshihiro Yoshida and Kota Sasaki, will join two yet to be announced European drivers when the 2013 Nurburgring 24-Hour race begins in Germany on May 17 to 20.

Subaru is aiming to complete a three-peat in 2013 after claiming class victories in 2011 and 2012.
