2011 Porsche 911 Cabriolet spied
Despite the current model being just a few months old, Porsche is already well underway in the development of its new generation 911, with a Cabriolet prototype spied during winter testing.
Due to arrive in Australia by 2011 carrying the internal 998 model designation, the prototype in these images also boasts an unusual fake side vent designed to imitate the Turbo model.
The enormous rear wing is also another red herring, disguising the true form of the rear end which will most likely carry over the smaller spoiler from the standard 911.
These design anomalies also include the tail lights which are merely temporary replacements to keep the final design under wraps.
In comparison to the current model, the head lamps on the new 911 stand more upright and the wing mirrors have moved from the A-pillar to the side of the door.
The next-generation 911 will feature the same flat-six engine but with a little more power, along with some significant weight reduction.
Also guaranteed for the new model is Porsche's new PDK dual-clutch transmission, boasting some minor refinements to evolve the technology.
