Summernats fries 138 tyres in official Guinness World Record burnout video

At this year’s Summernats 26 car festival in Canberra, the Guinness World Record was broken for the most number of cars in a simultaneous burnout.

A total of 69 cars took part in the tyre-frying, record-breaking event, creating a cloud of smoke that could be seen from the other side of the city, in a feat never before attempted anywhere in the world.

After the smoke cleared the record was confirmed by Guinness World Records official Chris Sheedy in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 10,000.

The event logistics included 138 tyres and a total output of 35,000 horsepower - (26,000kW).

“The Guinness World Record burnout attempt has already gone down as one of the biggest moments in the history of the Summernats, and we’re proud to be able to share what is was like to be there on the day with the rest of the world through this official video,” said event co-owner Andy Lopez.

Drivers came to the event from all over Australia, some traveling thousands of kilometres from Western Australia and Northern Queensland to take part in the unusual feat.

“We’d really like to thank all the drivers, staff and sponsors for making this incredible event happen. We wouldn’t have been able to do it with out you guys,” continued Lopez.
