Holden Barina Spark: $14,490 for new auto version

The much-needed auto version of the Holden Barina Spark will cost from $14,490, the local car maker has confirmed.

Holden has released pricing for the mildly updated version of its smallest car, which has seen sales hampered by the lack of an automatic transmission that is popular with car buyers since it was launched in 2011.

The Holden Barina Spark has struggled to 1168 units in 2012 to October, down 66 per cent on this time last year despite being a relatively new model.

The bigger Barina that also competes in the city car segment for Holden, and is available with an auto, has fared significantly better, up 88 per cent in the same period for 10,507 sales.

Pricing for the Holden Barina Spark continues to begin at $12,490 for the CD manual.

Holden has axed the higher-spec CDX model that started from the same $14,490 as the new CD auto, though the latter features similar extra equipment as electric power steering, Bluetooth connectivity, flip key and motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster.

The update includes some exterior and interior styling and trim tweaks.
