Toyota 86 tuned trio headed to SEMA

Three modified versions of the Toyota 86 are set to go toe-to-toe in a battle of tuners at the upcoming 2012 SEMA aftermarket show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The three Toyota 86 sports cars, sold in North America as the Scion FR-S, have been individually customised by three tuners as part of the eighth annual Scion Tuner Challenge.

The challenge sees each builder get a stock 2013 Scion FR-S, a US$15,000 ($14,492) budget, and three months to design, build and complete their dream car, with the winner taking home US$10,000 ($9660).

The three cars vary in style and purpose, from the track-focused FR-S GT (pictured top) by Daniel Song, to Chris Basselgia’s Minty FReSh FR-S which is all about luxury and functionality, and finally the Carbon Stealth FR-S (pictured above) from John Toca that seeks to combine both show and go.

With modifications covering everything from bodywork and paint, to audio installs and retrimming, each car’s extensive list of changes can be found in the gallery for all the tech-heads.

Joining the three Toyota 86’s at SEMA between October 30 and November 2, 2012 will be the Chevrolet Malibu Turbo Performance Concept and the Toyota Camry ‘Rowdy’ Edition.
