Nissan X-Trail recall: over 8000 vehicles with potential fire risk fault

A recall of more than 8000 Nissan X-Trail models has been issued due to a potential clearance issue with a piece of engine bay insulation that could lead to a fire.

The official Nissan X-Trail recall notice, published on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website, explains that the lower front bulkhead insulator in 8136 T31 X-Trail’s built between 21 December 2006 and 27 April 2012, may suffer from warping resulting in insufficient clearance to the turbocharger.

According to the ACCC, “The lower front insulator may partially smolder due to high temperature of the turbocharger, posing a potential fire hazard.”

While Nissan Australia says there have been no incidents reported, owners are urged to contact their nearest Nissan dealer to arrange an inspection, and if necessary, a repair and adjustment to the bulkhead insulator.

The recall for the Nissan X-Trail coincides with 2712 Nissan Dualis and Dualis+2 models also being recalled with concerns over the possible loss of vehicle steering.
