2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class Coupe
The new 2007 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class coupe range is now on sale in Australia. One of the best looking cars to come out of Germany has been updated with some more gadgetry and more importantly, power.
Being a Mercedes, the CL-Class luxury Coupé comes with the latest safety technology such as PRE-SAFE® brakes, the unique system that automatically brakes the Coupé before an imminent rear-end collision.
You get the choice of three engines ranging from a V8 to a 12 cylinders engine. Power output starts at only 285kW and goes up to 386kW for the AMG.
- The eight-cylinder powerplant in the CL 500 delivers 285 kW and generates a maximum torque of 530 Newton metres from 2800 rpm. The CL 500 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds (previous model: 6.3 seconds). Costs : $308,000
- An ultra-modern biturbo twelve-cylinder engine in the CL 600 generates 380 kW, 830 Newton metres of torque. The new CL 600 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds (previous model: 4.8 seconds). And despite the significant performance boost the V12 engine consumes 0.4 litres less fuel than the previous CL 600 per 100 kilometres. Costs : $389,000
- The CL 63 AMG sports the same 6,208 cc V8 engine that has recently taken the sports car world by storm. The 385 kW / 630 Nm torque powerplant is matched to the seamless AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission. As always, the heart of this sports star is hand-assembled by AMG according to the maker’s disciplined principle of ‘One man, one engine’. 0-100 time has mysteriously not been released, we suspect its under 5 seconds. Costs : $383,000
Mercedes-Benz has combined the standard-fit automatic transmission with the new DIRECT SELECT gearshift: the driver can select the transmission settings “P”, “N”, “R” and “D” by nudging a lever on the steering column.
