Kia Quoris luxury sedan to make Australian debut

Kia's first ever rear-wheel-drive production car, the Kia Quoris flagship sedan, will headline the Korean manufacturer's display at the 2012 Sydney motor show.

Currently available in its domestic market as the Kia K9, the luxury Quoris will be exported to a number of markets around the world beginning from the end of this year.

Although the Kia Quoris is only produced in left-hand drive at this stage, Kia Australia has not completely ruled out introducing the range-topping model in the future if it becomes available in right-hand drive.

Kia Australia chief operating officer Tony Barlow, confirmed in July the local division had no immediate plans to import the Quoris but admitted it would “continue to monitor the local market and … revisit that decision should it become an appropriate option”.

With its sights firmly set on the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Kia Quoris combines elegant styling with generous interior space, advanced technology and impressive powertrains.

At 5090mm long, 1900mm wide, 1490mm tall and riding on a 3045mm wheelbase, the Quoris is a close match for its German rivals, and sits two segments above the Kia Optima mid-sized sedan.

It is currently available in South Korea with a 213kW 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine, and a 245kW direct-injection version will be added to the global line-up from 2013. An eight-speed transmission transfers power to the rear wheels.

The interior also boasts impressive dimensions, claiming best-in-class rear-seat legroom (990mm) and a decent 455-litre boot.

The Quoris displayed on Kia Australia’s motor show stand will showcase the best of the brand’s technological knowhow, featuring a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, adaptive front lighting system, and automatic reverse parking.

An Intel Atom processor powers the car’s infotainment system, while a Lexicon by Harman premium audio system links to the central touchscreen and the twin front seatback-mounted 9.2-inch monitors to keep rear-seat passengers entertained.

Stay tuned for more news on the Kia Quoris following its debut at tomorrow’s 2012 Sydney motor show.
