McLaren P1 leaked photo gallery reveals massive rear wing

The McLaren P1 hypercar concept has been revealed in detail in a series of leaked images that reveal the dramatic design study’s massive aero wing for the first time.

With the P1’s official 2012 Paris motor show unveiling just hours away, the images - first seen on Russian website autowp.ru - give us a clear look at the coupe’s retractable rear spoiler that’s designed to improve the car’s high-speed stability and braking performance.

The new images also allow us to look the McLaren P1 square in the eyes, as well as straight down the barrel of its mid-mounted exhaust outlet and over its shoulder to reveal every air intake.

The P1 previews the British sports car manufacturer and Formula One team’s long-awaited spiritual successor to the iconic McLaren F1, which is set to launch in 2013.

McLaren says the P1 is being designed to be “the best driver’s car in the world on road and track”, as well as “the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made”.

The McLaren P1 is widely tipped to be powered by an uprated version of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 from the MP4-12C, while an F1-style KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) may potentially boost power beyond 700kW.

More details will be revealed when the McLaren P1 design study is unveiled in Paris on Thursday.
