Volkswagen Tiguan Compact SUV

We recently reviewed the Volkswagen Touareg and whilst we were more than impressed with the car, Volkswagen have been lagging in the compact SUV market, so comes along the new Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Tiguan is set to compete with the likes of Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav 4, the new Tiguan will feature a foldable rear bench and seating capacity for five.

The Tiguan is based on an upgraded platform used for the Volkswagen Golf range, with an obvious change for wider track and taller ride-height. The Tiguan is expected to be Front-Wheel-Drive in the basic models with an option for 4WD in the range topping models.

The car will be powered by a 2.0L “Clean TDI” Bluetec diesel engine with an estimated 170hp. Other powerplants should include VW Group’s 200hp 2.0L TFSI as well as a more powerful 280hp 3.6L V6.

The Tiguan will hit American and European showrooms before the end of the year, but there is still no news if Volkswagen Australia will bring this car down under, but given the popularity of the Toyota Rav 4 and Honda CR-V and also given that Volkswagen managed to make a case to bring Skoda back, it would seem like the Tiguan might have a future here.
